About the Madison Mississippi Lacrosse Association

Our Mission

The mission of the Madison MS Lacrosse Association is to promote the development and growth of lacrosse through its teams and community outreach.

A Bit of History

Madison MS Lacrosse Association (MMLA) was formed in 2012 by players and parents interested in bringing lacrosse to Central Mississippi. Currently, MMLA boasts a boys’ high school team, a girls’ high school team, and a boys’ U-13 team with training and development for players as young as 11. In addition, a non-contact, co-ed youth program teaches the basics to players ages 8-10.

In 2013, MMLA sought and was awarded a First Stick equipment grant and a Soft Equipment grant from US Lacrosse – the governing body for the sport in the United States. This allowed MMLA to provide equipment to interested players wanting to try out the sport and to hold introductory clinics in the community and at area elementary schools.

In 2014, MMLA teams played a schedule of games at home and throughout Mississippi. Team numbers grew and player performance was improved.

This year, we have set high goals of expanding our teams and putting a focus on youth lacrosse — the future of growing the sport in our area.

In 2015, MMLA teams played a schedule of games including games against St. Andrew’s and an away game in Oxford, Miss. MMLA also expanded, starting a club team at Madison Central High School.

In 2016, MMLA supported two high school lacrosse teams (MadLax and Madison Central) and one MadLax U13 lacrosse team. Season highlights included traveling to Memphis, Tennessee and Hammond, Louisiana, completing a ten game season, and MadLax going unbeaten within the state of Mississippi.

Today Mississippi Lacrosse fields one high school lacrosse team (9th through 12th grade), called MadLax and one MadLax U14 team (ages 10 to 14). The High School teams practice two to three times a week and will play anywhere from eight games to ten games (weather permitting). MadLax has played against teams from Alabama, Louisiana, and Tennessee. The U13 team practice two to three times a week. Their games are a combination of intra-squad games and travel games. Practice for the 2018 season will begin in early January to prepare for opening day scheduled for mid-February 2018. The season will wrap up in mid-May. Additionally, Mississippi Lacrosse will offer clinics and other events this fall to promote the sport.
